EASA’s Technical Cooperation Projects: Promoting EU aviation safety and sustainability standards worldwide
Aviation safety does not stop at Europe’s borders. Through a wide range of technical cooperation projects, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) works with international partners to strengthen aviation safety and sustainability standards across the globe.
EASA has just launched a series of pages in a brand-new layout, to make it easier to follow the initiatives and development actions under way in the various regions of the world.
As a regulatory authority itself, EASA brings practical experience and technical knowledge to its cooperation activities. This allows the Agency to understand the challenges faced by regional aviation authorities, and to facilitate collaboration between regulators, industry and international organisations.
EASA develops and implements major civil aviation cooperation projects in close partnership with the European Commission, EU Member States and European industry stakeholders. These technical collaboration initiatives are mainly funded by the European Union, and focus on delivering practical and sustainable solutions, which are tailored to the needs of partner countries and regions outside Europe. The demand for the Agency’s expertise has steadily increased as more non-EU countries seek to align their regulations with EASA’s internationally recognised standards. This also strengthens their aviation oversight systems.
EASA also works closely with international organisations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), contributing to global initiatives such as the No Country Left Behind (NCLB) programme.
Through the Technical cooperation projects, EASA supports national and regional aviation authorities in strengthening their regulatory and oversight capabilities. The range of activities delivered is very wide and is tailored to the local environment; some examples include: developing aviation safety regulations aligned with ICAO or EU standards, delivering training for aviation authority inspectors and deploying tools that enhance safety reporting. Technical cooperation projects are implemented in close collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure lasting impact.
By supporting stronger aviation systems around the world, EASA’s technical cooperation initiatives contribute to safer and more sustainable air transport globally. In addition, it protects the European citizens and the competitiveness of European aviation as it operates internationally.
