Chile's "El Mercurio" online edition reported on September 23 that TotalEnergies H2 has applied to Chile's Environmental Assessment Service (SEA) to suspend the approval process for its green ammonia plant project in the Magallanes Region.
The project is expected to invest approximately 16 billion US dollars, making it the largest investment ever received by the environmental impact assessment system. The company submitted documents requesting an extension of the project suspension period until March 31, 2027, aiming to respond to hundreds of comments on the project during the public participation phase. The Environmental Assessment Agency approved the extension of the procedure suspension period, but only until December 7, 2026. The authorities believe that this time limit is sufficient to complete the rectification, while retaining the possibility for the enterprise to apply for an extension again.
