5504 forest leaders guard 1.5 million acres of forest in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province

“最近天气晴热干燥，容易引发火灾。我们乡里森林覆盖率接近80%，绿水青山来之不易，必须用心守护好每一抹绿色。”这是浙江省台州市仙居县步路乡副乡长、副总林长吴旭明日前在新庄、双狮等村巡查山林时对村民说得最多的话。

"The recent hot and sunny weather has been dry and ideal for starting fires. Our township forest coverage rate is close to 80%. Clear waters and green mountains are scarce, so we must protect each green with care." When inspecting the mountain forests in Xinzhuang, Shuangshi, and other villages before the day, Wu Xuming, vice mayor and deputy chief forester of Bu Lu Township, Xianju County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, said the most to the villagers.

今年以来，台州市全面推动林长制工作走深走实。截至目前，全市共设立市、县、乡镇（街道）、村（社区）四级林长5504名，实现904万亩森林资源管护全覆盖、网格化。

Taizhou City has been actively promoting a more comprehensive and practical forest management system since the beginning of this year. 5504 forest leaders have been established at the city, county, township (sub-district), and village (community) levels, resulting in full coverage and gridding of forest resource management and protection of 1.5 million acres.

“林长制的建立，推动台州全面实现‘山有人管、林有人造、树有人护、责有人担’的目标。”台州市林长制办公室副主任吴其标说。针对植树造林、森林防火、松材线虫病防治等重点工作，全市各级总林长带头巡林护林，开展督导检查，推动以林长制促林长治。今年以来，台州森林火灾次数同比下降50%，无人员伤亡。

"The establishment of the forest management system encourages Taizhou to fully realize the goal of 'the mountains are managed, the forests are man-made, the trees are protected, and the responsibilities are shoulder," said Wu qibiao, deputy director of the Taizhou City Forest Management Office. The city's chief forest chiefs at all levels patrolled and protected forests, carried out supervision and inspection, and promoted forest management through the forest management system in light of the significance of afforestation, forest fire prevention, and pine wilt disease prevention and control. Since the beginning of this year, Taizhou City has seen a 50% reduction in the number of forest fires annually, with no fatalities.

今年春季，临海市括苍镇、永丰镇等地发生松材线虫病疫情后，当地林长冲锋在前，全面压实责任，迅速打响松材线虫病防治攻坚战，仅用60天就完成了松材线虫病除治9.5万亩，清理枯死松树10.5万株。

This spring, after the outbreak of pine wood nematode disease in Kuocang Town, Yongfeng Town, and other places of Linhai City, local forest leaders acted quickly, took comprehensive compaction responsibility, and quickly began the prevention and control of pine wood nematode disease battle. In just 60 days, they treated 15.7 million acres of the disease and removed 105,000 dead pine trees.

眼下，在黄岩屿头乡三联村，成百上千株杉树生长茂盛。村口设有林长制电子公示牌，上面滚动显示林长信息、责任部门、林业资源等情况，全天候播放森林消防短片。三联村村支书卢国良说，设立林长制公示牌后，老百姓保护山林的积极性更高了，有问题及时找林长，护林成为村民的自觉行动。

Hundreds of thousands of fir trees are currently flourishing in Huangyan Yutou Township Sanlian Village. At the village's entrance, there is an electronic bulletin board created by the forest director, on which the information of the forest director, responsible department, forestry resources, and so on is displayed in a rolling fashion, and a short film about forest fire fighting is played all day. According to the Sanlian village secretary Lu Guoliang, the enthusiasm of the common people to protect the mountain forest has increased since the establishment of the forest management system publicity board. If there is a problem in time to find the forest leader, forest protection becomes the villagers conscious action.

吴其标表示，台州将完善林长制制度体系建设，强化森林、湿地资源保护管理，全面提升森林绿地质量和生态系统稳定性，把绿水青山建得更美，把“金山银山”管得更好，为打造生态宜居、美丽幸福新台州奠定坚实基础。
