[March 11, 2026] As an international design and engineering award, the 2026 Dyson Design Awards call for entries has officially launched recently. Since its inception in 2005, the award has supported the design work of more than 400 young engineers worldwide. This competition is open to university students and recent graduates from 28 countries and regions, calling for innovative solutions to real global problems.

The Dyson Design Awards offers winners global media exposure and international recognition, helping young engineers accelerate the commercialization of their innovative solutions. Entries will first be judged by external panels at the national/regional level, as well as Dyson engineers. The first, second, and third-place winners from each country or territory will receive a £5,000 prize and advance to the international round of judging. Sir James Dyson will personally select the winner, runner-up of the International Grand Prize, and the Sustainability Award recipient, awarding each a £30,000 prize, and providing a platform through the Dyson Design Competition to showcase and develop their inventions.

In 2025, the Dyson Design Awards marked its 20th anniversary, and it also celebrated the 10th year of the competition in Mainland China. Last year, the awards received over 2,100 submissions from young engineers worldwide, spanning health screening, domestic waste management, and disaster relief, delivering innovative solutions to a host of global challenges.

Among them, the Pureco water-free flushing ecological household toilet system from the Mainland China competition area, designed by Tsinghua University's Liang Ji and Huang Junming, claimed the 2025 Dyson Design Award Mainland China Championship and secured a spot in the global top 20. This project enables resource utilization of manure without the need for water or electricity, solving the challenges of high costs and freezing issues in toilet renovation in cold, arid regions, effectively improving rural public health and advancing sustainable rural development.

Another entry shortlisted for the International Top 20 is the ScolioDetect scoliosis detection device, designed by Lu Hanwen and Song Xinyuan from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The team innovatively adopted the "wearable + AI gait recognition" technology approach, combining sensors with algorithms to turn daily walking into a diagnostic tool. Speaking of future development, Song Xinyuan said: "After the verification phase, we plan to pursue medical device certification and continue to explore large-scale implementation models in educational and medical settings, with the ultimate goal of rolling out the solution in campuses and communities."

Nominations for the 2026 Dyson Design Awards are now open
2026年戴森设计大奖于3月11日正式开启作品征集。自2016年进入中国大陆以来,大奖已激励超过2万名中国大学生为解决全球性难题提出创新解决方案,收到超过3000份学生作品。迄今为止,在全球历届获奖者中,有超过三分之二正投身于商业化他们的设计作品,引领行业变革,推动社会向美好未来迈进。
The 2026 Dyson Design Awards officially opened for entries on March 11. Since launching in mainland China in 2016, the award has inspired more than 20,000 Chinese university students to develop innovative solutions to global challenges, and has received over 3,000 student submissions. To date, more than two-thirds of all past global winners have been dedicated to commercializing their design work, driving industry innovation and moving society toward a better future.
2026年戴森设计大奖作品征集将于7月15日截止,此后,由行业专家及戴森代表组成的专业评审团队将遴选出获奖作品,并于9月9日公布名单。随后,全球20强将于10月14日决出,而全球冠军将于11月4日揭晓。参赛者可登录戴森设计大奖官网注册报名,了解相关赛事信息。
The 2026 Dyson Design Awards entry submission deadline is July 15. After that, a professional judging panel composed of industry experts and Dyson representatives will select the winning entries, with the shortlist announced on September 9. The Global Top 20 will be revealed on October 14, and the overall Global Champion will be unveiled on November 4. In 2022,Dyson announced a £275 million investment in the R&D of revolutionary products and technologies. A cross-border team of engineers,scientists and software developers will focus on research in fields including solid-state batteries,high-speed electric digital motors,sensing and vision systems, robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. As the investment plan progresses, Dyson stated in May 2023 that it will accelerate the development of globalized advanced manufacturing and R&D, build a next-generation battery factory in Singapore, and establish new R&D centers in the Philippines and the UK. Through software, connectivity, artificial intelligence and new-type batteries, it will power the next generation of Dyson technologies. • Process: Entries are first judged by an external panel of judges at a national or regional level. Each participating country or region will select its regional champion, runner-up and third place. A jury of Dyson engineering will then select 20 works from these outstanding design proposals, before submitting the top 20 international entries to Sir James Dyson for review. From these, the international award winner, runner-up and Sustainability Award winner will be finalised. The names of the champion, runner-up and third-place winners in each regional competition will be announced on September 9, the Global Top 20 shortlist on October 14, and the global winners on November 4.
