According to recent energy statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, South Korea overtook Japan to become Malaysia’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export destination by value in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Malaysia’s LNG exports totaled 13.595 billion ringgit in the quarter, representing an 18.5% year-on-year decline and an 11.6% month-on-month increase. By export destination, South Korea led at 4.533 billion ringgit (33.3% of the total), followed by Japan at 4.436 billion ringgit (32.6%) and China at 3.691 billion ringgit (27.1%).

On the other hand, Malaysia’s LNG imports reached 1.602 billion ringgit in the quarter, marking a 28.2% year-on-year drop.
