Prominent NBA Players And Even Some Owners Protested This Weekend
在本周末,众多的NBA著名球员甚至部分的球队老板都对此表示了抗议
Giannis Antetokuonmpo, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry and many other high-profile NBA players took to the streets this past weekend to march in protests against racism and police brutality, while other basketball luminaries, including LeBron James and Michael Jordan, spoke out publicly as well.
Although LeBron James didn't appear at any public protests this past weekend, he has been vocal in his support of the Black Lives Matter movement since the death of George Floyd, which has sparked 13 consecutive days of protests, demonstrations and riots that have captivated the country. In addition, Michael Jordan, who has often been criticized for not speaking out on important social issues, has pledged, along with The Jordan Brand, to donate a whopping $100 million over the next 10 years to help promote racial equality and social justice. In an interview with The Charlotte Observer published on Friday, Jordan challenged Americans to "Face up to your demons. Extend a hand. Understand the inequalities… This is a tipping point. We need to make a stand. We've got to be better as a society regarding race."
On Friday, the National Basketball Players Association approved the NBA's proposed 22-team plan to complete the 2019-20 season. Official training camps will reportedly open on July 7 in Orlando, and games are set to begin on July 31, with October 12 serving as the last possible date for Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
