China's postal and express delivery industry handled over 4.8 billion parcels during this year's Labor Day holiday (May 1-5), a year-on-year increase of over 20% and a new historical high for the same period, the State Post Bureau announced on May 6. The data reflects the steady development trend of China's consumer market and the strong momentum of high-quality economic growth.
During the Labor Day period, as the national cultural and tourism market heated up, the postal and express delivery industry accelerated its deep integration with cultural and tourism industries, innovated service models, and continued to expand its presence in county-level markets. In Wuhan, Hubei Province, Baocheng Road Night Market extended its business hours, leading to a significant increase in nighttime parcel pickup; in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, panda plush toys from the Giant Panda Base were shipped worldwide via express delivery; in Sihui, Guangdong Province, the "express delivery + manufacturing" model helped the jade industry reach national and global markets; in Changshan, Zhejiang Province, express delivery vehicles traversed mountainous areas to transport agricultural products such as huyou pomelos and lion's mane mushrooms to various regions.
During the holiday, the concept of environmental protection was closely integrated with trendy new consumption, and the industry's green transformation achieved remarkable results. In Hainan, fully biodegradable packaging bags were widely used in parcel collection; in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, standardized circular boxes were piloted in multiple scenarios, reducing both packaging damage and resource consumption.
A relevant official from the State Post Bureau said that during this year's Labor Day holiday, against the backdrop of the country's efforts to boost consumption and expand domestic demand in all respects, the postal and express delivery industry continued to strengthen the construction of service supply capabilities, deepen the integration of online and offline sectors, as well as commercial, cultural, tourism, sports, and health industries, support the innovation of diversified consumption scenarios, and create more effective demand through high-quality industry supply, helping to accelerate the construction of a new development pattern.
