On June 25, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi exchanged messages of congratulations to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their countries.
President Xi Jinping noted that over the five decades since establishing diplomatic ties, China and Mozambique have maintained mutual trust and support through changing international circumstances, with a friendship as solid as rock. He expressed his firm belief that by staying true to the founding purpose of their diplomatic relations and working together, the two sides are destined for an even brighter future in their bilateral relations.President Xi emphasized that he attaches high importance to the growth of China-Mozambique relations and stands ready to work with President Nyusi to take the 50th anniversary as a new starting point. He proposed to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation under the frameworks of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and jointly write a new chapter in the China-Mozambique comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
President Filipe Nyusi stated that the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mozambique and China coincides with the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence, a coincidence that highlights the traditional friendship and brotherly bonds between the two nations. He expressed gratitude for China’s unconditional support during Mozambique’s struggle for independence. President Nyusi reiterated that Mozambique will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and supports all efforts by the Chinese government toward national reunification. He affirmed Mozambique’s willingness to work with China on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit to deepen bilateral relations, expand practical cooperation, jointly uphold multilateralism, and promote world peace, security, and prosperity.
