The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on July 23 that the outbreak of monkeypox in several countries and regions constituted a "public health emergency of international concern." This is the highest level of alert issued by WHO. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus pointed out that although the risk of the monkeypox epidemic affecting international traffic remains low, the risk of further international transmission is clear.
